WHY WAKE-SURFING?
The Most Fun You Can Have Behind a Boat (Legally)
Let’s be real—wakesurfing sounds intense. You’re picturing pro-level flips, million-dollar boats, and someone yelling “Send it!” while you fall flat on your face. But here’s the truth: wakesurfing is actually one of the most approachable, low-impact, and insanely fun water sports out there—and it's growing faster than a Tahoe summer disappears.
At Sierra Surf House, we’re here to prove that anyone can wakesurf—and look good doing it.
You Don’t Have to Be a Pro (We Promise)
Wakesurfing behind one of our Centurion surf boats is like riding a magic carpet on water. These boats are engineered to make the wave do the work—slow speeds, soft landings, and wave shapes so clean it’s basically cheating.
Whether you're a complete beginner or you’ve got your own board with a name and backstory, we make it easy to get up and riding in no time. No stress. No ego. Just you, the lake, and the best wave in Tahoe.

Why Everyone’s Talking About It
Wakesurfing is blowing up—and for good reason:
No ocean required – Just glassy Lake Tahoe water and a Centurion wave
Low impact – You’re surfing at 10-12 mph. That’s grandma-on-an-eBike speed
Beginner-friendly – We’ve taught kids, parents, and even hungover bachelor parties
Super social – Ride a wave, then vibe on the boat with your crew
Incredibly addicting – One ride and you’re hooked. Seriously.
What Makes It So Fun?
It’s the freedom of surfing, without the wipeouts or shark anxiety. It’s the perfect mix of challenge and chill. And behind a Centurion, the wave just keeps coming—no paddling, no waiting. Once you get up, you're riding the same endless wave with nothing but Lake Tahoe’s epic views in front of you and your hype squad cheering behind you.
Plus, nothing boosts your summer street cred like casually saying, “Yeah, I learned to surf in the mountains.”
FAQs
What exactly is wake surfing?
Wake surfing is like surfing’s laid-back, boat-loving cousin. Instead of paddling out into the ocean and waiting for a wave, you ride a continuous wave created by a special boat—like our top-of-the-line Centurion wake surf boat—right here on the smooth waters of Lake Tahoe.
You start with a short rope to get up on your board, and once you’re balanced, you drop the rope and ride the wave just a few feet behind the boat. It’s slow (around 10–12 mph), super fun, and surprisingly easy to learn. No giant crashes. No saltwater in your nose. No sharks. Just endless surf, crystal-clear lake views, and a lot of high-fives.
Wake surfing is one of the fastest-growing water sports in Lake Tahoe because it’s safe, social, beginner-friendly, and—let’s be honest—you look cool doing it.
Is wakesurfing safe?
Very. Our Centurion boats operate at slow speeds (10–12 mph), which means soft falls and smooth rides. Goin about half the speed of waterskiing or wakeboarding, falls are mellow and tasty(if you like fresh, cold water).
Can kids wakesurf?
Yes! Wake surfing is one of the most accessible and safe kids’ water sports in Lake Tahoe. We've had little rippers as young as 6 get up and ride the wave. It’s a great way to get the whole family stoked.
Do I need any experience to wakesurf?
Nope! Zero. Nada. Zilch. If you can stand up and smile (not at the same time, necessarily), you can wakesurf. We’ll teach you everything you need to know, from getting up to carving turns. We specialize in first-timers.
Why is wake surfing so popular in Lake Tahoe?
Because it’s the most fun and rewarding water sport on the lake, hands down. You don’t need perfect conditions, it’s low-impact, easy to learn, and done in some of the most beautiful scenery on Earth. Our Centurion wake boats make it feel effortless—and the stoke is real.
Can we go tubing after wake surfing?
Yes! After you’ve had your fill of surfing the endless wave, we’re happy to hook up the tube and let you send it Tahoe-style. Tubing is the perfect way to end your charter—whether you want to chill and bounce around or go full rodeo mode and try to hold on for dear life.
We’ve got a high-quality towable tube ready to go, and we’ll tailor the ride to your vibe: slow and scenic for kids, or fast and splashy for the thrill-seekers. It’s one of the best ways to cool off, laugh until your face hurts, and make epic memories on the lake.
